LA MUJER DE LA GUARDA

 

Jacinta quiere saber cómo hará su mamá para respirar dentro del ataúd y sus tías le dicen que mejor vaya a cuidar a sus hermanos. Jacinta recuerda de su madre el sonido de la cuchara golpeando contra el vaso cuando revolvía la leche hasta dejarla sin grumos. Jacinta ríe con sus hermanos y su papá cuando él puede llegar temprano del trabajo y comen juntos y al final él les saca de las orejas chicles y caramelos. Jacinta es un bicho raro en un mundo donde los demás niños tienen madre. Jacinta no tiene un ángel de la guarda pero una mujer que viaja en un caballo azul vela por ella.

 

Jacinta wants to know how her mother will breathe inside a coffin, but her aunts tell her to go take care of her brothers. Jacinta remembers the sound of a spoon hitting the glass as her mother stirred milk until all the lumps disappeared. One day when her dad gets home early from work and the family has finished eating together, Jacinta laughs with her brothers as he takes gum and sweets out of their ears. Jacinta is a rare animal in a world where other children have a mother. Jacinta does not have a guardian angel, but a woman who travels on a blue horse watches over her.
